Hilton Head, South Carolina, October 1 -12, 2014

We found a beautiful, new RV park centrally located between Hilton Head, Savannah and Beaufort in Hardeeville.  It was right down the road from Jasper County Park and had hiking and biking trails, canoe rental, fishing dock, pool, and immaculate laundry facility.  Our friends Patty and Annie showed up to greet us about 45 minutes after we pulled in.  Patty and her mom, Annie, have lived in Sun City for the past four years.  We always make it a point to stop by and see them whenever we are in the area.  Patty is teaching cardmaking classes in Sun City, and I was able to take two of her classes while we were there!

We did a few day trips while we were in the area.  Savannah is one of my favorite east coast towns.  We love Bay Street on the waterfront, the Community Market and all of the town squares.

Beaufort is another historical waterfront town.  There are tons of art galleries and working studios that were fun to poke around in.

The cypress trees with hanging moss are so majestic.  They add so much character to the area.

Hunting Island is south of Beaufort and warranted its own day trip.  Most of the island is a state park and the site of an historic lighthouse.  We rode bikes on the beach and through the park and climbed 197 steps to the top of the lighthouse.  It was a fabulous day.

The view from the lighthouse was amazing

We were also able to hook up with my cousin Kaye and her husband Harold for a delicious paella dinner and her famous key lime pie.  We went back over to Hilton Head on Saturday to ride bikes and walk with Kaye on the beach.  It was a beautiful day and so much fun to catch up with my beautiful cousin.

Another favorite place of ours on the Island is Harbor Town at Sea Pines.  A great place to sit a spell!

We had one last dinner with Pat and Annie before we left to go down to Florida. Ken did some handy-man chores around the house and Patty made a delicious roast pork dinner.  It is fun and interesting and exciting to meet new people in our travels, but there is nothing like spending time with people that you know and love, like family and old friends, whose door is always open.

We are off to visit America's first colony and to explore the "first successful European settlement in the United States" St. Augustine.  I hear that Ponce de Leon's Fountain of Youth is there.  I will be in search....

Stay tuned for more living.
